5 Reasons Why You Should Adopt Vegan & Sustainable Beauty

The entire world is debating about Vegan Skincare and how it is the future of the Beauty Industry. Well, here are a few reasons and a couple of methods through which you can switch to Vegan and Sustainable beauty products, and become a responsible human being.

1. GET RID OF ANIMAL-SOURCED INGREDIENTS- KNOW HOW THEY ARE EXTRACTED

One of the most important things about switching to Vegan Beauty is humanity. Most of us have no idea how these animal-based ingredients are sourced-

- COLLAGEN: The skin, bone and tissues of animals are BOILED to extract it; most times even the nails and even ligaments of animals are used to procure Collagen. It is mostly found in all skincare products, like sheet masks, mascara etc.

Watch out for it before buying any product that contains this substance.

- ANIMAL BASED GLYCERIN- The tallow of beef (which is derived when cows are branded (burned with hot irons), dehorned (their horns are gouged out or cut or burned off), and castrated (male cattle have their testicles ripped out of their scrotums), is used to derive Animal-based glycerin.

Do you still want to use it? Thus, every single product at Seas & Skies consists of PLANT GLYCERIN which is derived from plant sources, with no testing on animals.

- KERATIN- Most hair products use Keratin in their hair masks, treatment shampoos and conditioners. But where does it come from?

It is derived from the horns of animals like Rhinos which are killed for Keratin. These animals are hunted down, ripped off of their horns which are boiled down to procure what is called Keratin.

An entire species of Rhinos face the threat of extinction just because the beauty industry must procure Keratin for smoother hair. Inhumane, isn’t it? So stop buying products that have Keratin protein. You can always buy alternative sources of such protein as Wheat protein.

2. AVOID PARABENS, SULFATE OR SILICON

While silicon particles are arguably biodegradable but they take hundreds of years to decompose- blocking waterways and causing toxic pollution in the oceans, affecting the lives of millions of aquatic animals.

Products with Sulfates are mostly tested on animals, by keeping them in cramped inhumane conditions, testing if the product has any allergic reactions on the helpless creatures. Now imagine, if the entire world starts to demand products being tested on your skin, with repeated allergic reactions and toxic ingredients, would you promote that?

Parabens are mostly harmful because they cause an imbalance in the hormonal structure, affecting the estrogen levels of the body. This causes significant damage, affecting fertility, increasing the risk of Breast Cancer and Tumors.

3. ADOPT BRANDS THAT HAVE SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING PRACTICES

The world’s plastic consumption has risen multifold lately. To combat this, many brands have come up with alternate solutions.

For instance, we, at Seas & Skies are using glass jar containers for most of our products. For plastic products, we use PET bottles which are 100% recyclable.

Thus, consume what can be reused and recycled.

As a consumer, you have the power to choose for yourself and for the environment- your purchase holds power.

4. SHOULDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF SUSTAINABILITY

As young adults, we felt the need to start a cause that would bring a change and hence we started with planting trees on our orders. On average, one tree creates 700kg of oxygen and captures twenty tons of carbon dioxide. We were able to plant seventeen trees in twenty days with our #SustainabilityWithSAS project, that resulted in an average production of 11,900kgs of oxygen through our trees. Does that not ignite a ray of hope for a better climate and a sustained ecosystem?

5. BE AN AWARE CONSUMER, SUPPORT WHAT IS RIGHT

As a consumer, you must always support brands that stand against inhumane customs of animal cruelty- this includes Vegan brands that not only refuse to source their ingredients from animals but also choose to never test their products on them.

You must always opt for brands that not only take care of your skin but also of our beautiful planet through their Sustainable practices.

CONCLUSION

We hope that this blog helped you realize the pitfalls of the beauty sector and the ways through which we can overcome them. Be a conscious consumer and know what is inside your product. And if you’d ask us, we’d always tell you to choose Vegan Beauty, because that is where the future lies.
